As if I’ve never told you enough, DW was down with tummy troubles last week. He was feverish Monday evening and was full-blown sick from Tuesday to Wednesday. He had LBM and I found myself neck deep in crap and diapers for those two days. DW was weak too and wasn’t in the mood to play. He just wanted to lie down and he kept saying “book book”. He wanted to read books the whole day and would watch the TV only if Special Agent OSO, Jojo and the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse was on. Otherwise it was “book book”. We probably read most of his books that day and repeated a few favorites.
We took him to the hospital last Tuesday to have him checked by his Pedia. DW was always pooping after finishing a bottle of milk so we had to rule out gastroenteritis or amoebiasis.
He hates going to the doctor
So Lola bought him a toy
His pedia said that DW’s fever was caused by his dehydration and so we had to rehydrate the poor kid. We bought glucolyte for this. He was also given E-Zinc and Erceflora. Zinc is a micronutrient which is depleted during bouts of diarrhea. Replenishing this helps reduce the severity of diarrhea and it can prevent future episodes for about three months or so (Additional info found at rehydrate.org)
I was fascinated with the Erceflora. DW’s pedia told us that it was composed of good bacteria and that because DW’s diarrhea has disturbed his intestinal flora, this is intended to balance it out.
Essentially DW wasn’t given any medicine other than these. We were told to only give DW paracetamol when his temp rises above 37.8 C. What DW was taking therefore were stuff to strengthen and balance his tummy and not to knock out any germs or what have you (do I make sense?) It’s the same principle I guess of us not taking any meds when we have LBM. Toxins need to get out (pardon the pun) and we should let them. Eating Bananas, drinking juice and glucolyte, the avoidance of oily foods — essentially allowing your body to heal by itself is still the best way.
Here’s a closer look at the Erceflora
Read more on Erceflora HERE DW drank a vial twice a day for five days. DW’s a trooper when taking meds, he takes ‘em and drinks ‘em like a pro.
DW’s poop also had to be examined. The test results showed that he was negative for any infection but he had a lot of fat globules in his sample. It meant that we should switch to lactose-free milk for the meantime and then slowly go back to his regular milk after some time. Right now, DW’s drinking Enfagrow Lactose Free and he’s doing great.
He’s eating regular table food, eating his fair share of fruits along with a cup of yogurt or a mini-tetra pack of his favorite yogurt drink
Magulo na sya ulit, maligalig as we say it at home. He was running around the other day, fell on the floor and promptly got a new bump on his forehead!
By the 4th day, DW was all better. Thank God!! Hooray for DW!!
P.S. It was only that week that I found out that the KoolFever patches came in a smaller size! I used to just buy the kids-sized patches and would cut them up so that it would fit DW’s forehead
It had a cute pattern too.
Have a healthy weekend folks
See you online!

I discovered erceflora from Ryan, who gives them to his dogs w LBM! Effective, no!
You may wanna go easy on the koolfever- if I remember correctly, its active ingredient is propylene glycol.
Glad to hear DW’s better! Ü (he looks 7 in that swing pic!)
