Unilab, a partner of ManilaMommy.com for their health and wellness advocacy has a health kit which you can use to start your first aid kit. More about the kit at my blog! See you online!

To those who’ve joined the ongoing diaper bag giveaway, I want to thank you guys again!! Please stay tuned next week when I give out additional mechanics that could get you at least 2 more raffle entries. The additional mechanics are optional, it’s up to you if you still want to do them. No pressure!

Also, I have a BIG announcement on Monday, but if you can’t wait, you might want to head over to my family’s blogs: Manila Reviews, Manila Fitness, Manila Blogs and Manila Shopaholic to see what’s in store for you for the whole month of August! (Clue: You can get to win a gadget!)

But first, here’s one more thing on my to-do list for this week:

When Ondoy struck us last year, I did a post on preparing a Go-Bag A go-bag is essentially a bag that contains all your family’s essentials that you keep in a safe place at your house so that when disaster strikes, you can grab the bag and just GO!. We have a basic go-bag in the trunk of our car but last time I checked it had 2 bags of Pee-Wee and a bottle of mineral water. Good luck naman diba It’s nothing like this:

A Kid’s survival kit from Imperative Gear (toys and coloring books included!)

Before I begin building a new go-bag for this season, one thing I want to have right now is a first aid kit. I’ve been wanting to do my own first aid kit. Right now I’ve always been fumbling around the boxes of medicines we have in one of BDW’s drawers just to find out that we’ve run out of Biogesic!

Good thing though that some local pharma companies have done the preps themselves like this Handy Health Kit from Unilab, which has:

- 4 capsules of Alaxan FR (for body pains)
- 4 capsules of Diatabs (for diarrhea)
- 10 tablets of Biogesic (for headache or fever)
- 4 capsules of Tuseran Forte (for cough)
- 10 tablets of Decolgen (for colds/flu)
- 8 tablets of Kremil (for stomach acidity)

Of course, you can add more like Iodine, Calamine lotion, bug spray, bandages, cotton balls and other special medicines and items that your family might need. The kit comes in a cardboard box but I suggest that you transfer it to a waterproof zip-lock bag. Zip-lock bags don’t take up too much space too.

The kit is a good start and best of all it’s just 200 pesos!!! So aside from our own supply, I’ll be buying one for my wife and his bro, my mom and dad, my other bro and our household help. Buti ng handa diba. Then maybe you can slowly build your kit so that it would look something like this:

Career!! Family First Aid kit from Well Promo

Aside from the first-aid kit, I also want to include these two in my go-bag:

Pic of the radio is from here

A wind up solar powered rechargeable radio and a squeeze flashlight! I bought a transistor radio so that we could still hear the news during blackouts but that still needs batteries (I’ll take a pic of it soon). A squeeze LED flashlight would be wonderful too since it’s self-recharging. Does anyone know where these are available locally (at sana di mahal!)

Anyway, have a safe weekend everyone!

Connect with Unilab via their website, facebook page and twitter!

Disclosure: I was invited by Unilab to take part in their health and wellness advocacy. I agreed to the partnership given that our family has been using Unilab products for the longest time now. Please know that I will not be involved in any partnership that conflicts with my own beliefs and that will compromise my family’s welfare. Thank you!

Picked my favorite "rules" from Walker Lamond's 1001 Rules for My Unborn Son. Mostly common sense stuff but are fun nonetheless. The pics are precious!

I came about 1001 Rules for My Unborn Son when I was surfing and reading my usual blogs I visit on kiddie stuff. I couldn’t stop reading it and was laughing at some of the “rules” posted in the author’s blog (readers have submitted some of their rules too). They really do recall a more genteel and formal lifestyle — one that I’m not used to honestly. BDW and I work at an office where the dress code had my mom asking if I was going to the grocery or malling a few times until she’s gotten used to it.

Most of the rules are just common sense though and are just really fun to read. The blurb for the book says

“Boys need rules. One man’s instructions for raising a thoughtful, adventurous, honest, hardworking, self-reliant, well-dressed, well-read, well-mannered young gentleman.”

Ah, raising a human being, what were me and BDW thinking???

Anyway here are some of my favorites (I didn’t read the entire blog, I had some things to attend to like doing actual work LOL!) and the pics they came with:

1) Be a good wingman.

2)

“Be like a duck. Remain calm on the surface and paddle like hell underneath. – Michael Caine

3) Surprise your dad at the office.

Trust me, whatever I’m doing is not as important as you.

4) Stand up to bullies. You’ll only have to do it once.

5) Always keep a recent photograph of yourself on file in case of emergencies or unexpected notoriety.

6) Look people in the eye when you thank them, especially waiters.

7) Never post a picture online you wouldn’t feel comfortable showing your mother, your boss, and the dean of admissions. — Hear that kids?

8) Have a signature dish, even if it’s your only one.

9) Try a hairstyle that you’ll one day regret. I’ll get over it.

Rod Escheeewart

10) If your mother is watching, wear a helmet. — HA!!

How about you? Do you have any “rules” or nuggets of wisdom you want to pass on to your kids?

4 Fun and Foolproof New Year's Resolutions (I hope!)

Happy New Year! Are you with me in feeling that the 5-day holiday was not enough? Bitin diba hehe

I was thinking about what New Year’s Resolutions I’d be making for myself. It always is that New Year’s Resolutions are always things that sound like CHORES and that I know are good for me but I probably won’t enjoy doing (or not doing) anyway. So, with that in mind, I thought of the following:

1) Cut down the soda. I loooooove Pepsi and Coke but the empty calories leave me bloated! So I resolve to only drink soda during the weekend and to only have one glass per meal. (including merienda, LOL!)

2) Baon. I resolve to eat packed lunches at least three times a week. That’s at least Php300 in my wallet right away that I can spend on a rainy day…or a sale

3) Make time to Blog. I love manilamommy and look forward to writing on this piece of the web everyday. My head is filled with draft posts but it’s finding the time to do them all that’s a challenge. In fact, I should be reading a very boring article now but nope, I’m here typing away! Meanwhile, I’d like to thank YOU for just hanging around with me. Tambay lang tayo ha? If you have something to say, the comment boxes are all yours! (No moderation needed, Akismet rocks! It kills spam!)

4) Shoot more. With that,I’ve signed up with Project 365. I love taking pics and my flickr has over 6,000 images. If flickr crashes or suddenly dies, that’s my whole photographic life down the drain I know that I still need a lot of practice. Heck it’s only recently that I’ve had the guts to shoot in M. It’s scary, all the adjusting and fidgeting but man it’s rewarding when the settings just click (yes pun intended hehe).

Below is my first image for the group. The main reason why I picked up a DSLR and have not stopped shooting ever since.

*cue the theme song from Yagit for my blurry baby*
