Summer Showdown of the Swim Diapers! I bought a 700 peso swim nappy and pitted it against Wee Wave! Find out who wins (clue: you!) in our summer showdown :D see you at http://manilamommy.com

Just in time before the summer break officially ends and the rainy season begins (which I can’t wait to start because the heat we’ve been having is juuuuust unbelievable!!), I bring to you a showdown of sorts between a 250 peso reusable swim diaper and a 700 peso one!

As a back-up to DW’s Wee Wave Swim Diaper which I reviewed here, I also bought Mothercare’s Swim Nappy during a trip to Greenbelt 5.

I bought it just to see if there is a difference in quality and if Mothercare’s swim nappy would be much better over all. My review of the Wee Wave diaper in a nutshell is that it’s cheap and that it works — really big bang for our hard-earned peso!

So how does it hold up to Mothercare’s Swim Nappy?

Here are some pics I took to show the quality of the stitching and the terry cloth interiors:

Mothercare’s Swim Nappy’s stitching is much more flat and I would assume that it would cause less skin irritation that way although Wee Wave’s stitching did not prove to be problematic with DW. I have to mention that the size of the Wee Wave Swim Diaper shown here is a small while that of the Mothercare Swim Nappy is extra large. The Wee Wave Swim Diaper used here is actually owned by DW’s classmate, C

Both swim diapers have soft terrycloth interiors although Mothercare’s has an extra layer of some sort of plastic under the terry cloth. I figured it was plastic because squeezing the swim nappy gives the same sound as when you’re folding plastic shopping bags.

Design wise of course Mothercare’s swim nappy wins. Wee Wave diapers that are sold locally by Blue Parasol only come in plain colors. Mothercare’s colorful fish design is really cute and summery. Also, the fabric used by Mothercare is closer to the ones used for swimsuits. Wee Wave’s swim diapers have a velvety quality to them but they are still waterproof nonetheless.

Therefore, the main difference between the two is the price that is of course if you can find still find Wee Wave here. Mothercare’s Swim Nappy although much more expensive, is still a great buy I believe and if you have a waterbaby like DW, the cost per usage of the Mothercare brand plus the cute porma factor make the price tag worth it.

Mothercare branches are found in Shanri-La, Greenbelt 5 and Trinoma.

How about you moms, did you try any other brands of swim diapers? If you have, please share them in the comments section below or you can post your own review at the Manilamommy facebook page here ! Thanks and have a great rest of the summer!

Cheers,

Happy summer pic of DW and BDW swimming at a pool :) Hope your summer's going well! Keep safe everyone!

We spent one weekend earlier this Summer at the Intercontinental Hotel Manila. They have an ongoing promo there called the I-Hop where you “hop” from one buffet to to the next. They have three buffets at the hotel and one of them is at Prince Albert where we stuffed ourselves with prime rib. The promo also includes buffet merienda and free use of the pool. We took this deal further because we booked a room and spent two days eating and swimming. Totally worth the price AND the calories

And these two could have stayed in the pool the whole time. DW loved it!

The staff at the hotel are really friendly, courteous and accommodating especially with DW! To know more about I-Hop, you can visit Manila Reviews’ post of the promo here.

I finally posted my review of Wee Wave Swim Diapers over at manilamommy.com! All the pros, cons and where I bought them plus another store where you can buy reusable swim nappies are posted at the blog. See you there!!

Hello everyone! As promised in my last post, I will be reviewing Wee Wave Reusable Diapers, which DW has been using and enjoying for the past few weeks. Reusable swim diapers, as opposed to disposable swim diapers are much more eco-friendly and easier on the pocket. After DW’s “swim”, a quick rinse of the nappies with soap and cold water and a few hours under the sun are all that’s needed and the swim diapers are ready to be used again.

I first saw Wee Wave Diapers at a Christmas Bazaar at Tahanan Village. The stall selling the diapers, Blue Parasol, had a lot of baby and kiddie clothes that were probably “overruns” or “third shift” items. We were buying DW a jacket then when I saw this and because it was just Php250, decided to buy it too.

The verdict? It was Php250 spent well. The outer material is really soft and is made of lightweight, waterproof material. Wee Wave also claims that it has a certified UV protection factor of 50 (UPF 50+), which means that you can be assured that your little one’s tushy won’t get burned to a crisp. (SPF is for sunscreen while UPF is for clothing, learn more about UPF from the WHO here )

The flipside of the diaper is covered with soft white terry cloth. The garter and stitching around the waist and thighs are snug which ensures that accidents don’t spill into the pool

If there’s one thing that’s not working for this diaper though is that it looks like bloomers! For the record, I’m ok with it but BDW strongly feels that they look like granny panties!! LOL! So, DW wears board shorts over his swim diapers. It’s double protection at the very least I must admit and the swim diapers do not add bulk to the board shorts. At home though, DW just wears the diapers on their own.

I bought the diapers from Blue Parasol. They’re tiangge regulars and I’ve seen them at Greenhills before. They have a permanent booth at the second floor of Market!Market! However, their stocks for Wee Wave are now all sold out. I gave my number to the saleslady so she could update me when new stocks arrive. Their multiply site HERE isn’t updated either but one of the blog posts mentioned a contact number. If I get a heads up from the saleslady I’ll tweet about it at my account @manilamommy and at the group page over at Facebook.

Here’s a pic of the blue parasol booth at Market! Market!

If you want to call them up, you can try this number: 0917.880.4730.

Swim diapers are also available from The Eco Baby Boutique although they don’t carry Wee Wave. They have a clearance sale on the Diaperaps Swim Diaper, Php300 na lang!

So to sum up…
