When I was pregnant with the boys, I heard a lot of “sabi-sabi” and “pamahiins” that just boggled my brain. The only sane way to react I figured was to laugh them off because some were just really funny. Some however were just downright, I don’t know, tactless? I mean c’mon if you’re heavy with child and you’re sweating and you can’t move because you’re so heavy, would you want to hear this??
Di nakakatuwa ha! And yes, I was pregnant with boys twice, so I heard a more subtly version of this “Iba itsura mo, lalaki siguro yang dala mo”. Dear well-meaning friends and relatives, can we just stop the speculation and give the pregnant mom a break (or an ice cream or a slice of cake?!) hehehe
I only knew a couple of common pregnancy myths so I turned to twitter to see if there are any other strange or unusual myths that I haven’t heard of. True enough, twitter did not disappoint:
how, why? HOW??? haha honestly, i wouldn’t know if my linea negra was straight because i could only see half of it. with both of my pregnancies, my tummy was HUGE! but then you would be sleepy the whole day! a grouchy pregnant woman? yikes!Gusto ko lang maloka!! I laughed so hard with the moms who replied who of course knew better than to be swayed by these myths. We can all laugh at how fervently our grandparents and even the generation before us believed so much in folklore but we have to recognize that information was so hard to come by then. We’re so lucky that we’re now at the age where a quick type of key words and search terms in google will lead us to answers both from experts and fellow parents. This is where Anmum’s Mommy Circle comes in. A quick click of this link opens you to expert information and of course encouragement and support from fellow parents. Read more about myths and how it’s so easy to debunk them or just talk about your pregnancy journey with fellow moms in the Anmum Mommy Circle facebook page. Share a few laughs over some silly myths too why don’t you! See if you can find some that are sillier than the ones I posted here!
Thank you so much to the moms who responded to my twitter question. It was fun learning new myths and wonderful laughing with you 😀
