Two weeks ago, I attended the Aprica stroller launch at the Power Plant. BDW and I just bought a travel stroller for BDW (a Maclaren Volo) and were actually looking at other stroller brands, thinking about what to buy should baby #2 come. We’ve replaced our trustworthy Ashworthy because it just became so hard to bring and to maneuver. It didn’t really “grow” with us as we intended it to be and the front right wheel of the stroller would just not cooperate — like those wayward wheels in grocery carts that just refused to go in a straight line. We bought a new stroller because we wanted a light yet sturdy pair of wheels for DW that we can bring along when we travel.
Aprica is a Japanese brand and is now making its entry in the Philippine market. It’s currently only available at SM’s Baby & Co but will be available in other stores soon.
I was going through the styles they have on display and I focused on these two items:
The Laura Guild stroller (Php26,995)
This is a beautiful stroller that is just lightweight and absolutely functional. My favorite feature is that you can arrange the orientation of the stroller so that you can push the cart with either the baby facing you or away from you. The wheels and gears adjust automatically. One thing I was looking for when we were shopping for strollers when I was still pregnant is a parent-facing stroller so that I can look at DW and be able to check on him. Although our old stroller had a little window on the hood so that I could see DW, it’s just not the same with having your baby face you.
High/Low Bed Chair (Php15,999.75)
Well, this was just amazing! It’s a high chair that also converts into a bed and rocker. It’s certainly one of those gadgets that grows along with your kid. DW has a Fisher Price rocker and a high chair but I’ve never thought the two could actually be one and the same gizmo! But then again, Aprica is a Japanese brand and the Japanese really are innovators.
I asked parents awhile ago via twitter what they look for in a stroller and if a stroller may be considered an investment (considering how much they cost nowadays!). Those who answered back just wanted the basics and did not look for the “bells and whistles”. The price points for Aprica strollers, car seats and carriers are higher than the usual brands that you see in department stores and baby boutiques. For parents though, it’s another great brand to consider for your little one’s comfort and safety. The more options the better I say! To Aprica, thanks for the invite and good luck!

March 23, 2011 at 10:28 pmWe purchased our Aprica Pirate stroller at Youji & Me in greenbelt 5 when our baby was 3 months old (and didn’t like staying in the giant Chicco Cortina) and we have taken it everywhere with us, both locally and overseas – it travels really well and is lightweight. It has taken a beating and is still working well. It only lost the lock for the handle while in transit back to the Philippines but Youji & Me promptly got us a replacement part. He’s now 14 months and is still very comfortable in it. We just make sure not to leave the diaper bag on the handles when we take him out, it will tip over!

March 4, 2011 at 11:00 amWe (I) wanted the miracle turn combo precisely bec of the handle option and the “4-wheel drive”. It was too expensive though. And the flat-fold would occupy too much trunk space. I still look at it though… Ü
We eventually got a chicco umbrella-type. Reasonable enough, and we’re getting good use out of it (J goes othe park twice a day on weekdays, for more than a year already!)
We got a p2k very very lightweight umbrella-type stroller for travelling abroad (I forgot the brand, baby&co). Not for everyday/ weekend use. Ü
