I originally posted this at my old blog over at Multiply. I know friends who have babes who are just teething so I hope this repost helps! (Originally posted on June 19, 2009 over at the girl is gone)

Up until our last visit to the pedia, I would always clean DW’s gums and tongue with a cotton bud soaked in sterilized water. DW loves this ritual; he would always bite the cotton bud and would then grin from ear to ear. Since then, his two bottom front teeth has erupted and both of them are quite sharp. He once bit my finger and I had to stifle a scream. Masakit din sya ha! 😛
His two front teeth.
Here’s a link on the order of baby teeth eruption
On his last monthly check-up, DW’s pedia advised us to buy a training tootbrush for him but to buy one with silicone bristles. There are baby tooth/teeth cleaners out there which you could slip over your index finger so you could clean your baby’s mouth but that runs the risk of you getting bitten. Dra. wanted an actual toothbrush to train DW to grasp the handle and for him to get used to the motion and sensation of having his teeth and gums cleaned.
So off we went to Trinoma, this time to the Landmark to look for the toothbrush. Between SM’s Baby & Co. and Landmark, the former cannot be beat although the Landmark has a lot more cheap baby clothes and baby shoes.
We ended up buying Pigeon’s Baby Training Toothbrush, the caption on the box is so funny because it was very very specific:
2-3 milk teeth lang! haha
The brush is weird looking and it doesn’t look like a toothbrush at all. The head reminds me of a medieval weapon:
The brush comes with a shield which you put over the head of the toothbrush so that the baby won’t put the whole thing in his mouth and gag
But of course, I forgot to put the shield when I gave the toothbrush to DW 😛
Before letting DW hold the toothbrush, I brush in between DWs teeth (the silicone bristles against his teeth makes a cute squeaking noise) and then massage his gums, inner cheeks and tongue. After I’m done I hand the whole thing for DW to chew on. It keeps him preoccupied while I dress him up. Nowadays, it is SOOO hard to dress him up after his bath because as soon as I lay him down on his back he turns himself over and crawls away. Putting on his diaper is an absolute challenge that I learned how to put on his nappy while he was held standing up and jumping! Grabe ang likot lang talaga! Pinapawisan kami ni BDW sa kanya haha 😀
DW meets his new toothbrush
Needs a little bit more target practice…
Gigil naman…dahan dahan lang DW hehe
DW in action:
For the clean-up, you can throw the whole thing in the sterilizer. The toothbrush costs Php160 🙂 It’s also made in Malaysia (BDW and I have decided not to buy stuff from China for DW, nakakatakot e) So far, so good!
