Celebrating Christmas in our family begins on Dec. 24, with us going to church to hear Misa De Gallo. Noche Buena soon follows and our table is usually filled with hot bibingka, puto bumbong, Christmas ham smothered in pineapple sauce, tsokolate and yummy slices of Queso De Bola. Gift giving then comes next and echoes of thank yous and a smattering of hugs and kisses soon permeate our household. This is what I grew up with but now that I have my own family, I wondered if we should start our own traditions. Soon enough (with my fingers and toes crossed) we will be moving out and we will be celebrating Christmas as our own family. I wondered, do we go to my parent’s house or to BDW’s? Do we invite both families over to our *ehem* house (oh geez I wish I’m not jinxing this because I’m writing about this now) and celebrate Christmas Eve with them? Oh wow, that means hosting Noche Buena for our families, will I ever be prepared??
For this year, we took a teeny tiny step. Because we still live with my parents, we decided to make our family’s presence felt amidst my mom’s Christmas decors with this:
It’s a gingerbread man decor we found at Debenham’s. I bought one to mark DW’s second Christmas. When we get our own tree, I’ll fill it with memories of Christmases past and future. So I think I need to buy another one to mark his first one in retro 😛
How about you? How did you celebrate your Christmas? Do you have plans of starting your own Christmas traditions?
