When DW was a wee baby we massaged his gums using a clean piece cotton bud and sterilized water. We then moved on to using a baby toothbrush from Pigeon (see my review of that one here) . We supplemented that with tooth and gum wipes from Sansfluo for those times when DW goes straight to sleep at night. The Sansflou wipes had xylitol and it’s one step above using clean gauze soaked in water (which is just as effective). However, we used the wipes sparingly because they smelled like vomit. It smelled so awful that BDW has refused to clean DW’s teeth with them. (I’m always stuck with the stinky jobs!!) If you’re one who’s concerned about chemicals, the wipes also use methylparaben, a preservative that has anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties. Concerns have been raised over this chemical because parabens are said to be endocrine disruptors. Skin Deep Cosmetics Database gives this ingredient a 4 out of 10 for danger. (See relevant links here, here and here).
Now we’ve done away with the Sansfluo wipes in favor of My Dentist’s Choice Tooth Tissues:
Here’s a quick rundown of the Tooth Tissues:
The Pros:
- – The wipes smell good and fresh.
- – The wipes are packed like ordinary wipes so they’re easy to use.
- – The wipes are thick and large.
- – The wipes smell good and fresh.
- – Paraben Free and Sugar Free
The cons:
- – Not widely available. The only retail store that carries them now is Numa Baby. You can also order via the following:
email: ymsorders@gmail.com| sms: +63 922 551 8956 | multiply: http://yellowmustardseed.multiply.com/products/listing/10001/Tooth_Tissues - – Price: One pack is 300. I’m not sure how much the Sansfluo wipes are but the Tooth Tissues are definitely more expensive.
My Dentist’s Choice is a product of two parents in the US who are also dentists. I found out about them via OCMominManila. We’re down to a few tissues and I’ve ordered again from Yellow Mustard Seed. We bring the tooth tissues with us wherever we go and is especially useful when DW had a particularly sweet treat. He loves chomping on the tissues too. These tissues come out when DW would fall asleep while drinking his milk. I take out the bottle, have him drink water to rinse out the milk and then I clean his teeth with the tissues. (Easier said than done though, struggle ito).
If you want to try out a pack, you may contact Tine of Yellow Mustard Seed via Email: ymsorders@gmail.com| SMS: +63 922 551 8956

March 27, 2012 at 3:59 pmWe tried the Sansfluo toothpaste ONCE! Napraning ako kasi yung baby ko sinipsip yung paste at di pa sya marunong magspit! Although sabi naman nung nagbenta sa kin okay lang daw malunon (OMG! I hope she told me the truth!). These days, we only give my daughter her toothbrush and let her brush without toothpaste. I want to try this tooth tissue. When you said “If you want to try out a pack”…that means for free? hehehe

March 15, 2012 at 1:30 amWhen I took B to the dentist, she actually discouraged Sansfluo. She told me to use a toothpaste with flouride already for his age. As long as we stick to just a dash of toothpaste, the flouride content is ok daw for swallowing!

March 12, 2012 at 2:19 pmI’ve been searching for paraben-free children’s toothgels, but it’s a challenge to find one. Sansfluo is the only one that’s widely available in supermarkets. The tooth tissues are currently out-of-stock at YMS. Do you know any other brands that don’t contain chemicals? I badly need one for my daughter. Thank you!
