I appreciate the fact that my cousin-in-law made the effort to go up to the mom to ask about her daughter. I love that he was encouraged to ask more because he has a nephew who has Down syndrome and he wanted to learn more. I’m pretty sure the mom was beaming when she was recounting her daughter’s milestones. I’m quite sure that she was also glad that someone came up to her and asked her about her daughter too. Maybe she was relieved that she had to deal with curious questions instead of curious stares.
Maybe someday, I’ll be this mom too.
This email made my day. Thank you JL (ikaw na!)

This Sunday, Feb. 24, the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines will be holding its annual “Happy Walk” in celebration of Down Syndrome Consciousness Month. Dan, David, Noah and I will be marching. If I can I’ll post pics through instagram 🙂 A photo exhibit will also be held at the block in support of raising Down syndrome awareness.

February 23, 2013 at 12:57 amHi, manilamommy! It was great to hear from you. Brilliant!
Although I also took speech therapy when I was in elementary. No wonder I can speak straight today. See you on Sunday if we can meet there. It is my second time to attend the Happy Walk. And I realize I am also part of DS society. I am proud of who I am today. 🙂

February 21, 2013 at 7:29 amHi! I admit I’m one of those who don’t know how to deal with these situations.
I’m glad your cousin did what he did… and I’m glad the mom was more than willing to accommodate his questions =)
