Aka: Kylie Aphrodite Live In Manila!
Aka: I died and gone to gay heaven!
Aka: Cirque De so Gay!
Simply put, this is a concert experience that I will never ever EVER forget! As much as I am a hard rocker (see my posts on NU and STP in this blog haha) there is a spot in my heart (and ears) for songs that are simply perfectly crafted pop. Songs that stay with you and bring you that extra ray of sunshine when your day is an absolute dud. Kylie Minogue is in that spot and has actually reigned over the years. In fact, when I was pregnant with DW and was working through my day job’s busiest season, it was Kylie’s X and Ultimate Kylie that allowed me to hum along even when the work piled up.
So when news broke on Twitter that Kylie is coming, I rounded up my friends who are Kylie fans (a girl and the rest of the gay folks of course) and we all agreed that we should watch our goddess. The first day when they sold tickets, I walked to SM Makati and bought 7 Upper B seats. That was in May. The concert was in July. Di naman kami excited diba?
July 5 came and we welcomed our goddess with cheers and tears!! We were overjoyed!! Andito na si Kylie!!
She emerged from a golden shell singing Aphrodite
NALOKA KAMI! Throughout the show Kylie emerged from the stage in a costume or on a prop more fantastic than the previous one. We were in AWE!!
Here she is on Pegasus
The set list was to die for (to dance for?) I got so tired after the concert, even more so than a usual rock concert because I was dancing and singing to all her songs! I guess head banging isn’t much of an effort no?
singing Everything is Beautiful
Can’t Get You Out of My Head
The dress!! The shoes!!!
Singing solo under the spotlight
And then THIS
The Angel meets the Goddess! TARAY
And then a most awesome mashup. Kylie together with her back-up singers and dancers sangThere Must be an Angel by the Eurythmics. I danced with the hugest smile on my face. It was one of the show’s best moments ever. Instant club anthem (even if I’ve never been in a club for years).
And then a big boombox was shown in the big screen onstage. Riffs from Step Back in Time started playing and then Kylie in cut-off shorts and an orange furry bolero burst on stage singing Better the Devil You Know! And then she stopped, her dancers went backstage and it was just Kylie and her back-up singers. She talked to the audience, said that she knew we were with her from the “very beginning” to which the audience roared an emphatic YEEEES!! Kylie then told us that she did research about songs people would like to request from her and she found out that a certain duet was very popular with us pinoys. On the word “duet”, EVERYONE LOST IT. EVERYONE!! Kylie then told the audience we would be singing the male part of Especially for You. AARGH!!
“And now we’re back togeeeether! Togeeeether!! I wanna show you, my heart is oh so true! And all the love I have is especially for yooooou” Araneta was a huge sing-along at that point. Everyone’s hands were up in the air we were all swaying left to right. IT WAS AWESOME!!!
Here she was, swaying with us. GRABE LANG.
Haaay and then a few more songs and then a big Thank You from her “Salamat t pow!” and then the lights dimmed. People screamed Kylie! Kylie! Kylie! Of course we wanted more.
And then she showed up.
Di sya handa! 😀 She was decked in pearls. The finale was All the Lovers!
On top of the world
Kylie sure felt the love from us Pinoys then and she definitely loved us back. She is an icon and although it took her 25 years to reach our shores the WAIT WAS WORTH IT! But I do hope she comes back soon!! To wrap up this picture-laden post, I quote one of Kylie’s songs “Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow!!”
Balik ka Kylie ha?
