It’s been rainy on more days than not these past few months and the scare of Dengue is on every mom’s mind. The viber groups I’m a part of all have had loved ones who have been admitted because of Dengue. It’s still shocking to know of people infected by the Dengue virus. It’s such a serious, dreadful disease that I pray that it never hits our family. And then of course there’s a new mosquito-borne virus too called Zika. I’ve been reading up on it and the complications it presents are astounding. I do hope that more information on prevention and most importantly, a cure is found soon for this.
For #TeamSantos, an ounce of prevention is definitely worth a pound of cure. So we’ve stocked up on our old reliable OFF! Lotion most especially for David and Noah. A lot of schools become breeding grounds for the Dengue mosquito not by choice but because the environment lends itself to it. Big schools have a lot of nooks and crannies that form puddles that are not cleaned up right away, unfortunately. David goes to school where my youngest brother went and where he got Dengue! I remember being so scared then because he lost a lot of weight (he’s a big guy!). I stayed with him when he was confined at St. Luke’s and I remember the nurses and my mom being very vigilant with his platelet count. He was able to recover fast but it gave our family such a huge scare.
But it’s not just Dengue that’s getting a lot of news today. The Zika Virus is also a mosquito borne disease that is spread also by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito. The symptoms of Zika and Dengue are similar and these include conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pains, rashes, headaches and fever. Zika infections are said to have long-term complications. The recent wave of Zika infections has affected newborns because pregnant women can pass on the infection to her unborn fetus.
Guarding against these terrible diseases is a huge priority in my daily care for David and Noah. Ensuring that they’re protected against mosquito bites means that we stock up on OFF! Lotion always.
David uses OFF! Overtime which offers 8-hour protection. Fortunately he loves the smell and I love the DermaCool formula so the lotion is not sticky on his skin. This variant is perfect for him since he’s in school for most part of the day. I always remind him to put some on before he goes to school and before he goes out to play with our neighbors. I’ve taught him to do this by himself too so that he won’t have to rely on reminders from lola or our yaya.
For Noah, I use OFF! Kids, which offers 3-hours of protection. I have his yaya apply it on him after he takes a bath and before he goes to school. I apply a new layer after his nap and before he goes out to our garden for his much needed playtime. Noah’s prone to insect and mosquito bites for some reason and the bites really show up as bright red spots that become really itchy for him so we really make sure that Noah’s protected and OFF! Lotion is one of our musts for him.
As a mom, I’ve learned that I can never be too careful when it comes to the health of my kids. I make sure that they get their daily vitamins, eat well-balanced meals and are protected 24/7 from mosquito and insect bites. We buy OFF! as often as we buy the kids’ toiletries. If you’re curious about what OFF! Lotion offers, they have 4 different variants that you can choose from:
Available in 3 pack sizes: 6 ml | 50 ml | 100 ml
Variants: OFF! Overtime, OFF! Kids, OFF! Soft & Scented, OFF! Clean Feel
These variants are also available in sachets which are really handy for travelling!
Check them out when you go to the grocery this weekend and pick what’s best for your family and your lifestyle. Keep safe guys and remember to don’t go out without OFF!
