Last weekend was the great SM Baby Company fair at Megatrade. Manilamommy.com is a blog partner of the event and so last Sunday, BDW and DW and I hied off to Megamall to check out the fair.
The hall was packed!! There were a lot of booths for different baby stuff and baby accessories from the big brands, small businesses and of course momtrepreneurs (shout out to Indigo Baby and Next9!!). Of course, the place was filled to the brim with moms, toddlers, dads and soon-to-be moms and dads all pushing carts with items that are marked down from 20 to 50 percent off their retail prices.
My goal that day was to buy water bottles for DW and to look out for interesting stuff that might be worth watching out for.
The first booth I went to was Avent. BDW and I are looking for water bottles for DW and these guys below were marked 20 percent off! I also checked out their tempo bottle refills and yep they were further marked down to 480 (I bought ours at 500 per box). I also went to the Playtex booth because I remembered my post on Avent Tempo and some of you also highly recommended Playtex. Well during the fair the Playtex drop-ins were also on sale!
rightmost box : From Php 429.75 to Php 340.00, middle box: Php 449.75 toPhp 360
The next booth I went to was Tramontina’s, which had these really gorgeous stainless steel cutlery sets for kids!! It really does give life to the phrase “born with a silver spoon in one’s mouth” haha but stainless steel sets are the best alternative to plastics nowadays especially if you’re looking for long-lasting BPA and PVC-free options for your young ones. I wanted to buy a set but DW has enough already. These sets would be great baptismal gifts though.
The next booth I went to was Sansfluo’s. DW already had 6-8 teeth in when he was 6 months old and so we already had to brush his teeth from that time on. I’ve seen Sansfluo before in drugstores and I’ve seen it used with DW’s older cousins so when time came for us to finally brush DW’s teeth, that was the brand we went to.
Sanfluo, as its name indicates has no flouride and so its safe to swallow the gel. We are now trying to teach DW how to spit out his toothpaste and water during brushing. Sometimes he swallows everything and he would sometimes nibble on his toothbrush because the gel is orange-flavored. Knowing that the gel is safe to swallow leaves us with one less thing to worry though. Also, Sansfluo has no sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) which some say may lead to more harm than good. It’s better to be safe I say and it’s great that there is an alternative to the regular toothpaste.
I can’t believe how excited I was when I saw that Sansfluo now has a Xylitol Gel and Xylitol wipes. The latter works as a quick way of cleaning your kid’s teeth when you’re on the go or in our case if DW falls asleep at night while still drinking milk. DW has molars now (yes mga BAGANG) and I’m just worried about his dental health. I grew up not fearing dentists and knowing just enough to keep my teeth from rotting (in fact my childhood dentist is our godparent in our wedding haha).
This was my basket last Sunday. But I had to put all these back because the lines to the cashier were INSANE. Like every other SM Megatrade sale event, the payment is centralized. Everyone fell in just one line. Whether you had a basket like mine or a big cart or two (some had two carts!!), you all fall in the same line which gets broken up when you’re at the cashier area already. I didn’t have the time to fall in line with my four measly items behind moms and dads with carts filled to the brim with baby gear. I also didn’t want to make BDW and DW wait for me as well. I wish that the next Baby Fair would organize their payment system so that preggy moms didn’t have to stand so long in line (Masakit sa legs at paa yun promise!)
The one huge line 0_o
I really wished we went earlier so I would have had time to really shop around and pay for my purchases! I wish there was something like this fair when I was still pregnant with DW. I bought stuff for the baby when our OB gave us the green light to go shopping and I was in my 8th month already. This fair would have been perfect!! Haay!
Ay I have to mention this, aside from the booths there was a pedia who was giving a really lively talk about breastfeeding who then segued to bottle-feeding and included in his talk facts about BPA and how to identify if your bottles are safe. It was awesome and the moms who were listening are really lucky to have that resource for free!
Overall I think this fair is great and I can only see it getting much bigger. Moms and dad are always on the lookout for the best baby stuff at the best prices and this fair will be a definite destination for that purpose. I do wish that there’d be more smaller businesses in the mix as independent business owners and mompreneurs also offer a lot of unique items for parents and kids that sometimes the big brands have yet to develop and sell in the market (syempre support Pinoy products too!!) Also, I really do wish they’d rethink the whole centralized payment system to lessen the waiting time or maybe, they’d at least create a waiting area so that the preggy moms and tired dads can sit and wait for their number to be called when it’s their time to pay.
So, until the next fair then!!! 😀
