If you have yet to treat the “mom” of your life for mother’s day, fret not for you still have the whole month of May to indulge your favorite girl with a great meal and win her a prize too!
Last night (May 22), my brother and I went to meet with representatives of Meat and Livestock Australia who are currently promoting their Moms for May promo. By ordering any Australian lamb dish this month of May from the promo’s partner restaurants, the lucky moms will get to win:
- 1 Bikram Yoga Gift Certificate for one week unlimited yoga classes
- 1 Deluxe Massage Voucher at the Spa
- 1 Store Specialists Purple Card Gift Certificate worth PHP1000
- 1 Australian Lamb Recipe Cards with Magnet
One order of a lamb dish entitles you to pick one prize, ordering more would give you more chances of winning!
My brother and I had our lamb dinner at Buenisimo by Cafe Ysabel. BDW and I had a couple of dates at Cafe Ysabel at San Juan before and we both love the old world feel of Cafe Ysabel. Buenisimo, which is run by Gino and Gianina Gonzales, who are the kids of Chef Gene Gonzales (0f Cafe Ysabel), certainly had that old world feel but in a more modern, minimalist setting.
The highlights of the dinner was the Truffle Pizza and of course the Lamb Rack.
The Truffle Pizza had white sauce, organic mozzarella, truffle oil and truffle bits. It’s a great white pizza that was rich in flavor but was still very light. I had about three slices before I surrendered 😛
The Lamb Rack was to die for! I ordered my lamb medium well and it was served with Apple and Fennel Relish which provided a sweet counterpoint to the meal. The meat was really tender and I had to stop myself from inhaling the whole plate (my bro and I were sharing one order). Both of us agreed that this dish was worth coming back for. To be honest with you, I was completely relieved when the Lamb dish turned out ok, otherwise this post would not have seen the light of day 😉
Paul, one of the reps of Meat and Livestock Australia, explained to us that the misconception and hesitation with lamb is all because there was a time when unscrupulous businessman imported mutton and passed them off as lamb. Mutton is meat from older sheep, is tougher and has a stronger smell, which I can only describe as “malansa” In recent years though, the inspection and controls have improved so that what we now get in the supermarket and in restos is the real deal.
When the meal was finished, my bro and I picked our prizes from a fishbowl and we both won Recipe Cards. The recipes are all Pinoy dishes using lamb so there are recipes for Kare-Kare, Adobo with Quail Egg, Inihaw, Tapa and even Longganisa! Most of these recipes were created by Chef J Gamboa of Cirkulo.
The Moms for May promo will run until May 31. Participating restaurants are:
- Uncle Cheffy’s (a family favorite)
- O’ Sonho Portuguese Restobar
- Buenisimo
(You can find reviews on Uncle Cheffy’s and O’Sonho at Manila Reviews)
Buenisimo’s website and menu can be found here.
Have a great time everyone! The promo’s up until the end of May only!
Thanks to Meryll of Grupo Sorbetero for the invite!
